Standard 1

Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity.

a. Promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness.

The above website was designed with the goal to showcase innovative, interactive, and useful applications related to mathematical concepts.  The audience was quite broad as the applications can be used in the classroom or at home.  By displaying reviews for each of these applications, I engaged in promoting innovative thinking through the use of technological tools in the math classroom.

b. Engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources.

The video above is part of a lesson on measuring perimeter using Google Earth.  This math problem is housed on the Geospatial Technologies website created to promote geospatial technological tools in the classroom and professional development.  This type of math problem engages students in solving a problem for a real-life scenario by using digital tools and resources.

c. Promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students' conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative process.

The assignment above gives students the opportunity to collaborate with each other using a technicological tool in Moodle.  It is part of the 6-week course I created on Carrer Planning in Moodle.  This particular assignment promotes student reflection using a discussion forum to clarify student thinking.

d. Model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual enviornments.

Part of the Career Planning Course I created on Moodle included a section on creating a portfolio using a variety of tools and collaborating with each other through the process.  Students were encouraged to collaborate with others by asking questions, looking at examples, proof reading, editing, and revising each other's work, and progress through the assignments as a team.
