Standard 4

Promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility.

 

 

a. Advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources.

The above section of a website showcases proper siting of resources in order to promote safe, legal, and ethical use of digital tools.  Every resource has a description as well as the website it is "borrowed" from.  The world wide web is full of useful resources and students are encouraged and shown how to properly document and give respect to copyright when using these resources.

b. Address the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources. 

One of the assignments in my Career Planning Moodle Course, required students to collaborate together to rewrite five diverse objectives.  Students were to use their own background, experiences, and culture to help them determine effective ways to get their point across. 

c. Promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information.

The lesson above was created to model to other teachers one of many digital application tools that can be used in the classroom.  This page is taken from the Geospatial Technologies website.  The page introduces Augumated Reality by showcasing one way to use the Aurasma App in a mathematical setting.  The page also includes a video I created using this app, showing teachers a simple way to use the app in the classroom to engage students in practicing multiplication tables.  Throughout this page, I model digital etiquette by appropriate use of language, refrencing sources, and promoting technological tools.

d. Develop and model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures using digital age communication and collaboration tools.

The video above is part of the Geospatial Technology website, and it reflects a mathematical lesson using bridges from aroudn the world.  When creating this lesson, I wanted to incorporate other countries in order to promote global awareness to my students using digital tools. The lesson also encourages students to take a look around the world and find a river where they see no bridge has been developed (according to Google Earth) and create one to connect two landparts.  Students who have a multi cultural background may very well search around their native country and students from the US may spread their wings and find another country that interests them.
